I often
hear
people
bemoaning
the lack
of
decent
Indian
food
here in
Cyprus,
so it
was with
mixed
feelings
that I
greeted
the news
of the
new
Indian
take-away
opening
in the
centre
of
Paphos.
I had
high
hopes,
as it is
located
very
close to
our
office
in town,
but this
enthusiasm
was
tempered
by the
concern
of being
disappointed
again.
Well I
can
report
that I
needn't
have
worried
- we've
been
burning
the
midnight
oil in
Paphos
Scene
Towers
this
week,
getting
this
first
issue
ready
for
print,
and the
lads at Tikka
take-away
have
proved
to be a
shining
beacon,
helping
keep us
sustained
through
the long
evenings.
Favourite
starters
for me
have
been the
onion
bhajis
and meat
samosas
(decent
portions
as well,
not like
many of
the
Indian
restaurants
in the
area),
and the
mixed
kebab on
naan
bread is
a
delicious,
authentic
and very
satisfying
meal,
coming
with a
pleasing
"build
your
own"
option,
where
the
sauces
are
served
in
separate
tubs so
you can
mix and
match to
personal
taste.
Properly
hot
chilli
sauce as
well, an
essential
ingredient
for me!
Definitely
one to
be
recommended
then,
especially
those
complaining
that
"they
don't
make it
here
like
back in
the UK".
Apart
from
anything
else,
the tikka
chefs
are from
Manchester,
so their
curry
credentials
are
sound.
And for
those
cynics
who may
feel
that
we're
only
including
such a
positive
review
because
we're
carrying
an
advert
for the
place,
then
think
again -
the ad
above
has been
placed
by us
free of
charge
as a
thank-you
for
helping
us
through
the last
couple
of
weeks,
and also
as an
invaluable
public
service
for all
you
curry
connoisseurs
out
there!
