Paphos
Tigers
Make a
Grrrrreat
Start to
the
Season
If
you’ve
been
following
the
Tigers
this
season
you
already
know
that a
strong
pre-season
has
given us
an
excellent
platform
for the
2007-8
season
and that
expectations
are
high.
After
the
excitement
of the
recent
international
rugby
played
here in
Cyprus,
with
several
of the
Tigers
squad
involved,
the
players
were all
really
pumped
up for
the new
season.
Our
first
game was
played
against
the
Nicosia
Barbarians
on 10th
November.
After
the long
coach
journey
up to
Nicosia
the
Tigers
looked
sharp
and
dangerous
in a
convincing
win.
Nicosia
Barbarians
0 –
Paphos
Tigers
62.
With a
week to
recover
and
perfect
some of
the
moves on
the
training
ground
the
Tigers
were
back in
battle
on 17th
November
against
last
years
league
winners,
Episkopi
Eagles.
Sadly
the
Eagles
team
weakened
due to
military
commitments
but the
Tigers
still
put on a
strong
performance
building
on the
previous
week’s
victory.
Paphos
Tigers
70 –
Episkopi
Eagles
7.
The away
fixture
at Ayia
Nikalaos
Stags
was
moved to
Paphos
giving
us back
to back
home
games.
As with
the
previous
week we
saw
around
300 fans
supporting
the
Tigers
and
enjoying
the
refreshments
available.
With the
Tigers
now
showing
some
consistent
form it
was a
great
game
with the
sides in
stalemate
for the
first 20
minutes.
The
Tigers
training
paid off
as their
superior
fitness
and
handling
lead
them to
victory.
Paphos
Tigers
61 –
Ayia
Nik
Stags
0.
Thanks
to all
our
supporters
and
sponsors
who’ve
helped
us get
off to a
winning
start in
the new
season.

Season
Preview
2007/08
Last
seasons
efforts,
which
saw the
Tigers
head the
league
through
the
first
half of
the
season,
ended
with us
in 3rd
place in
the
league.
Hectic
schedules
and some
injuries
left us
with a
weakened
team in
the
second
half of
the
season
but we
managed
to grab
enough
points
to hold
onto to
3rd
spot.
All this
was
achieved
with the
help &
dedication
of
coaches
Niall
Doherty
and Tony
Calvert
(Fitness)
and
physio
Janine
who kept
the boys
healthy.
Our
thanks
to them
for
their
support
through
the
season.
Our best
wishes
to Niall
who is
now the
Director
of Rugby
for the
Cyprus
National
Team.
